Graduation Pathways to Success (GPS)

The Office of Student Services, in an effort to promote on-time graduation, developed "Where is your GPS Leading You? Graduation Pathways to Success (GPS)", a Power Point presentation for K-12 students, parents, and educators. The GPS can be used as a resource to guide stakeholders through the multiple pathways to graduation. To access this PowerPoint, please visit www.pwcs.edu, go to the parents tab on the left column, click on Graduation Pathways to Success (GPS), and you're on your way!

Parent Access to Student Courses in Canvas

Create Pairing Code:

NOTE: Pairing codes can only be generated using the web version of Canvas, not the mobile app.

  • A student can generate a parent/observer code by logging into https://pwcs.instructure.com with their @pwcs-edu.org email address.
    1. To reset your @pwcs-edu.org email visit Password Self-Service
  • In Global Navigation, click the Account Then click the Settings link.

  • Click the Pair with Observerbutton on the right side of the window.

  • A new window will open. Copy the Pairing Code

  1. Copy the six-digit alphanumeric pairing code. You will need to share the code with the observer who will link to your account. The pairing code will expire after seven days or its first use.
  2. To close the window, click the OK
  3. Note:Pairing codes are case sensitive.

 

Creating an Observer/Parent Account in Canvas

Note: If you already have a Canvas Parent Account, skip to the next section

 

  • Once guardians receive their pairing code from their student(s), they will need to sign up for a Canvas account. 
If you are a PWCS employee please use a personal email account and not your work email to create this observer account.
    1. Parents will go to the observer Canvas Login page and select “Parent of a Canvas User” from the top right of the Note: this page is different from the Student login page.

  1. Parents will enter the information requested including the pairing code from the steps above.

  • Once the account has been created, parents can choose to use the Canvas Student on their Apple or Android devices to access their account. The Canvas Student app and the Canvas Parent app are similar.  Canvas has recommended that the Canvas Student app has a better layout. 

 

  • When using the app, parents will select the “Prince William County Parents” link when asked to “find school.”
