Office hours Wed 12-1:30pm.

4/27/2020 If you missed the email and zoom meeting today, below is the email sent after the zoom meeting with an assignment for you.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are well and had a fun weekend! If you happened to miss the zoom meeting this morning, that's okay. This email is to explain what we did. You were to bring the book you are reading to the zoom meeting to show. We then watched a video, brainstormed some ideas of where video could have taken place and what could be happening. It was great to see your smiling faces.  : )

Your assignment if you missed the zoom Lang Arts meeting this morning:

1. Write the title and author of the book you are reading now and 1-3 sentences about what you like about the book.

2. Watch the very short video:

Write a 1-3 paragraph story to go along with the video. I'm sure you noticed the video had no words, so you can write a short story to go along with the video or a summary of the video.

Please email me the above answers when completed. Thank you so much!

Remember you can always work on join a game, (search for 6th grade, elements of fiction, figurative language, context clues, or text structures). If you complete quizziz, play until you score at least 75%, email when you complete a quizizz game and the topic.

Monday's Language Arts scheduled time is 8:30-10 am. My office hours are Wed 12-1, I should be available to answer your email at that time.

Remember to READ! Miss you soooo much! Help your parents and stay safe!  We may do a quick zoom meeting Friday 3pm to touch base and check in, look for an email.  I still haven't seen some of you yet. Looking forward to seeing your smiling faces soon!

Ms. Bailey
See you next Monday for Lang Arts 8:30-10 am. Please continue to read and send me updates with your reading. Thank you so much. Stay safe. Miss so you much!

4/20/2020 Remember to read at least 30 min each day, the same as before. We want your reading level to improve by reading, not fall behind. Please send me the name of your book and tell me something about your are reading. Thank you to everyone who has emailed, or connected at zoom meetings. Check your email often.

4/13/2020 I hope everyone had a safe and healthy spring break. Here is a list of some web sites that support the learning from this school year. Please use them when you have time. Please check your email regularly.

Free Educational Websites for Home

Sometimes screen time is a necessity if we have children at home and work we need to do. Here are four apps that make screen time a learning time:

  1. CodeMonkey: a game-based education program that teaches children to code. It comes with a membership fee, but there's a free 14-day trial that doesn't require a credit card.
  2. BrainPop: Online learning across subject areas for children in kindergarten through middle school and ELL learning for all age groups. Free.
  3. Khan Academy: Online learning in math, science, and literacy for all age groups. Standards-aligned. Free.
  4. Scholastic Learn at Home: Interactive learning journeys for all ages.

4/2/2020 The VDOE, Virginia Department of Education has this site listed to create an active home. Looks some great fun activities to do over break.

4/1/202 Spring Break will be April 6-April 10. I will not have office hours during that time, but if you want to reach out to say hi or email, please do so. I'm in the process of finding some projects that I think you would enjoy if you need something to do over break, mostly art things since I know most of you love art and PE. I'll try to look for those things.

Free Art lesson on drawing a cute dinosaur
Origami for kids, the bookmarks are my favorite, but the bunny is cute too:  Hint: you can always use old newspapers or magazines and color the pages
Have excess energy in your house? Go Noodle helps with that.
Listen to a story: Scroll down to readers and the stories are listed under the readers

3/30/2020 Hello Everyone!

I miss each of you sooo much! I miss your daily smiles and many hugs! Please reach out to me whether it be about class, how things are going or just to say "Hi!". Please check your email often for any updates as well as this page.

At this time, teachers are not assigning any graded material.  We can only provide practice of content we have already covered.  Students can go to the schools webpage and they can sign into their email account Office 365 to access IXL and Study Island. Students can also go to and practice 6th grade elements of fiction, figurative language, text structures and text features, context clues, making inferences, drawing conclusions and summarizing.

My office hours are Wed 12-1:30 pm. Please email me if you have any questions or need support. I will be checking my emails at least three times a day.

Please stay safe and healthy!

Below are the SOLs we have covered this year.  Please continue to practice these skills on IXL and Study Island.
1st quarter Elements of Fiction
2nd quarter Figurative language, main idea and details
3rd quarter Nonfiction

This is from the Audubon society, scroll down for a variety of activities, (includes a drawing lesson) about birds. (sent 3/25/2020) I loved the idea of a drawing lesson and I thought most of you would too.

Although PWCS is unable to provide instruction or class assignments to students while schools remain closed, our School Division hopes that the suggestions for optional learning activities posted here will help parents support student learning until schools re-open. Please remember that use of these materials and participation in these activities are optional and neither grades nor course credit will be awarded.

3/30/2020  Hi! I miss you so much! I hope you and your family are doing well. Please check your email. We will be doing Zoom meetings which you will receive notification by email. You will need to download Zoom on your laptop, tablet or phone. I have sent two emails so far to touch base and will be sending an email out shortly for a Zoom meeting. In the meantime, please continue with your independent reading. Reading is so important! Don't have a book, use EPIC,, study Island, IXL, Another good idea is after you read, either write a summary or keep a journal. Please feel free to email me as say 'Hi!'
