Hello students and parents,

I hope that you are doing well and staying healthy during this shutdown. I am committed to supporting my students' learning during this unexpected closure. For the remainder of the year, students will have the option to access online assignments and learning supports created to reinforce material taught so far this year. All assignments and supports will be accessible via Microsoft Teams. At the bottom of this message you will find links to the Teams pages for all of my classes. There is also a link to Clever, which students can use to access other online platforms.

No grades will be issued for the optional work on Microsoft Teams, and I will not be teaching any new material for the remainder of the year. However, I will provide virtual instruction, personalized feedback, and follow-up activities to improve mastery of the material we have covered this year.

I have uploaded a document titled "7th Grade Standards Taught Before Shutdown 19 20 JGay" that can be found by clicking on "Files and Documents" over on the left of this screen. You can also find the document under the "Files" tab in the Microsoft Teams page for your class. I have also updated my instructional calendar to reflect when each standard was taught, practiced, and assessed.

I will be hosting Virtual Instruction on Mondays from 8:30am until 10:00am via Teams. Invitations will be sent to each student's school email account a few days in advance of each meeting. I will also be keeping Virtual Office Hours from 12:00pm until 1:30pm every Wednesday. That being said, I will be working virtually every weekday from 8am-3pm and will be available via Teams and email to answer any questions you may have.

As I know more, I will pass along information here and on Microsoft Teams. I look forward to working with you in the weeks and months to come! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me at gayjn@pwcs.edu.

If you do not have internet access at home, please note that the parking lot of Fitzgerald Elementary School (
15500 Benita Fitzgerald Dr, Woodbridge, VA 22193) has been set aside as a Wifi Hotspot for students.

Note (4/27/20):

I just want to take a moment to say how encouraged I am by the number of students who have been attending our class meetings and completing the assignments. We are keeping each other busy! I did not expect this level of engagement when this all began, considering the limited access to technology and the optional nature of the work. But even with those obstacles, our class meetings have been better-attended than those of many of the classes/teachers at Hampton MS. I hope that you and your families are doing well during this crazy time, and please know that I am incredibly proud of all of you.
