Algebra is all about solving for an unknown. What are some real-life examples where we solving for an unknown? For example with the price of gas going up, I keep trying to figure out how many gallons I can buy for a specific amount of money. Price per gallon (X) = total money I have to spend.

I think that you should explain it in more depth and explain it's critical part where students can get stuck.
